The first recorded document I found for Thomas was the following record: Auckland Hospital,Thomas Labrum, Male, 23yrs, Labourer, Ellerslie, Church of England. Admitted 1st January 1880 . Discharged 8th January 1880. Medical Diagnosis, Contusion.

Then came his marriage to Janet. This took place at the Auckland Registrar's Office. Thomas states birthplace as at sea, this is incorrect.
The family moved quite frequently probably due to the nature of his work which was working for the railways as a Platelayer. He worked in Auckland, Rotorua and finally settled in Huntly . Several of the children were not regstered at birth which may have due to these moves.
After Janet died I suspect life for the family was rather difficult. There were nine children without a Mother to care for them and Thomas was a sick man. He was in the Waikato hospital from 1928 until his death suffering from Cancer of the tongue.
