According to the CLARKSON famly researcher, Mary was raised by her father David.
Mary's first three children were born 1886, 1888 and 1891. The father was reputed as being Ja mes SPENCE but I can find no marriage or any records to suggest he ever existed.
On the 16th February, 1915 Mary married John PIERCE by which stage she had another eight chil dren, all were fathered by John.
