[23617] Salt Lake Tribune, The (UT) - November 21, 2005
Deceased Name: Irma Done Labrum White 1919 ~ 2005
Beloved sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Irma Done Labrum White, died November 14, 2005 after a long battle with cancer. She was 86 years old.
She is survived by her brother, Willard, (Shirley) Labrum, Salt Lake City; sister-in-law Percia (Merlin) Peterson, Ogden; brother-in-law, Merwin White, St. George; and her children: son, Robert (Nadine) White, San Jose, CA; daughter, Margaret (David) North, West Jordan; son, Ken (Donna) White, Salt Lake City; daughter, Marian (Gordon) Harman, West Jordan; daughter, Ann (Dean) Pearson, Mesa, AZ; 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry, her sister, Lucille, and her brother, Rulon. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Irma was born on January 30, 1919, to Rulon Henry Labrum and Irene Done Labrum. She grew up in Murray, Utah, graduated from Granite High School and was Valedictorian of her 1937 graduating class. She also attended the University of Utah. She was an active member of the LDS Church and served in many positions including Relief Society President. She was also a member of DUP and for a time served as secretary of her chapter.
She married Gerald White on June 24, 1941, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She survived the World War II years while Jerry was serving in the Army in Japan during the post-war occupation, even though there were great hardships for her as a young mother and wife. She made a wonderful home for her children, and later for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Irma was a great cook, an excellent seamstress and always had the most immaculate yard and beautiful flower gardens. All enjoyed the wonderful candies she made at Christmas time and every family member was presented a quilt when they were married or had a baby. She knew a great deal about gardening and had beautiful varieties of chrysanthemums and roses that she tended. All were welcome in her home and she loved to have her family and friends visit her.
The family would like to thank Dr. Patricia Legant and her staff, the hospice team at Community Nursing Services and all the wonderful sisters in the Murray 24th LDS Ward who visited and offered their loving and invaluable help with her care at the end of her life. We would also like to thank all the family members who called or visited and helped out physically and emotionally, with their presence in her home and in our hearts, until Mom passed away.
There will be a viewing at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, located at 4760 S. State Street, in Murray, Utah, from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, November 21st, where family and friends may call to pay their last respects to Irma. There will be a celebration of her life at her funeral, Tuesday, November 22nd, beginning at Noon at the Murray 24th LDS Ward Chapel, located at 755 E. Three Fountains Drive. Family and friends are also welcome to a viewing prior to the funeral from 11-11:45 a.m.
