Obituary
Randy Lane Bell
June 5, 1951 ~ August 28, 2018
Randy Lane Bell, 67, returned home on Tuesday, August 28, 2018.
Our cherished husband, father, brother, and grandfather was born on June 5, 1951, the son of Robert Newby and Oleta Labrum Bell.
He was sealed to Joann Johnson on September 4, 1973 in the Logan Temple. Randy is survived by his wife of 44 years, Joann; his five children and their spouses, Bob and Melissa, Aaron and Emily, Bill and Summar, Becky and Brian, Ryan and Abby; and his eighteen grandchildren. He loved his family and will be missed greatly.
Randy was a loving son to his parents and a compassionate brother to his six sisters Chris, Cathryn, Teresa, Bobbe, Colleen, and Janis while growing up in Rexburg, ID. During his childhood, he helped in his father’s blacksmith shop and did well in school with a focus on music, math, and science. He played clarinet throughout his life and loved music and singing. He graduated from Utah State with a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry in 1973 and received a PhD from the University of Oregon in 1977.
He spent his career, as a research biochemist, researching new treatments for asthma and cancer with the majority of his career spent with Abbott Labs outside of Chicago. He holds multiple patents for his scientific research and discoveries; however, his true legacy, joy and passion in his life is from his wife, children and grandchildren and his love for his Savior.
Randy was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving as a Bishop, Branch President (Great Lakes Naval Branch), Chicago and Ogden Temple worker, Ward Family History Consultant, and he loved to sing in the church choir. He enjoyed his service at the Morgan Family History Center, being on the Board of the Morgan Chapter of the Sons of the Utah Pioneers, and performing with the Morgan Community Choir. Randy’s gentle strength and faith sustained, inspired and supported those around him.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the Highlands Chapel, 5378 W Old Highway Rd., Mountain Green, Utah. Friends may visit with family from 9 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the celebration at the church. Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
