His family settled in Colorado County. Enlisted in the Civil War, discharged due to disability. Married Wilhelmine Pagel in 1867 and raised three sons. Lived in Fayette County. Moved to McLennan County and owned a farm, received two patents for his washing machine designs in 1887 and 1891. Moved to Tarrant, Hardeman, Montague, Wichita, and Clay Counties. At the time of his death he was a hotel proprietor.
