As a boy Edward worked in the dairy business. When he was 18 years old, he
accompanied his older brother to Ashley, Utah where he engaged in farming.
Afterwards, he helped build the Salt Lake and Fort Douglas Railway. In 1886
he went to Colorado where he again worked on the railway and after his return
the following year, he studied at the Salt Lake Academy. Returning to Ashley,
he began learning the trade of a mason. Edward acted for several years as
President of the Elder's Quorum. He was also first counselor in a Bishopbric.
Edward was a Justice of the Peace.
